J/psi suppression and elliptic flow in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at the mid rapidity region of the PHENIX experiment

The results shown in this thesis involves  Au+Au and  p+p data sets. The analysis steps and extraction of J/ψ R_AA and elliptic flow v₂ from the run 7 Au+Au data taking period at center of mass energy of √s_NN =  200 GeV are presented and the results discussed. The new result does reinforce the understanding that the previous data set offered about the effect of the medium created in heavy ion collisions at high energy on the production rate of the J/ψ.
