Description
Despite the enormous success in treatment of childhood cancer, one in five children cannot be cured and, as a result, dies from cancer. Little attention has been directed to 1) long-term bereavement of grieving parents, 2) family impact, adaptation and coping and 3) the use and needs for delivery of bereavement care services. The «Bereavement care for parents after death of a child to cancer» study brings together the knowledge and expertise from psychooncology and palliative care with the aim to broaden knowledge on the long-term outcomes and needs for help and support of bereaved parents who lost their child to cancer. This project can serve as a guide to establish national interventions that promote family adaptation, problem solving, coping, and resilience and mitigate specific mechanisms that create financial or other strain on families with seriously ill children.
