Analysis of BPMN based business process models
Description
In this paper we have proposed a method of analysis of business process models designed using the BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) standard. The method is based on the control flow design rules and common BPMN “anti-patterns” (undefined start/end events, missing gateways, control flow connectivity issues, etc.). Thus, BPMN business process model might contain missing start/end events and tasks, as well as invalid events, tasks, and gateways. In order to validate proposed method, we have prepared and analyzed 24 sample business process models. With considering that 15 of these 24 models contain errors, we compared results obtained by using proposed method with results obtained by using well known methods of process models evaluation: density and connectivity analysis. According to validation results, proposed method of business process model analysis is presumably more efficient than existing methods.
