Description
This article examines the basic trends in the evolution of the European research area from the adoption of the Lisbon Strategy in 2000 up to the completion of the Europe 2020 Strategy. It examines how these policy documents have contributed to the development of research and innovation, contributing to increasing EU competitiveness internationally in the context of rapid globalization. Moreover, there is a need to invest more in knowledge and research, both materially and in terms of content, otherwise the EU risks losing the global competition for its leadership position in research and innovation.
