Description

This article is a qualitative research that uses public data from the City Council of Tubarão, state of Santa Catarina in Brazil in order to analyze prohibitive educational policies of the municipality regarding to the repression of gender and sexuality debates as well as situating these policies on a broader spectrum as a result of trends that are observed at the national level. The article analyzes current bills and approved laws related to municipal education containing restrictions on the terms “gender”, “gender ideology” or “sexual orientation”. In contrast to the analyzed legal provisions, a scientific research stance is assumed in the field of human rights and education, emphasizing the need for education in and for human rights and an assertive stance by the State in defense of the principle of human dignity.
