Description

Subtribe Taphurina Distant, 1905b

There are currently two subtribes within the Taphurini after the reassignment of the genera previously assigned to the Tryellina Moulds, 2005 into the Lamotialnini Boulard, 1976 (Marshall et al. 2018). Anopercalnina contains a single genus whose males lack opercula and is restricted to Madagascar (Boulard 2008) and can quickly be distinguished from the species of the Taphurina. Only Taphura contains multiple species, the remaining eight Neotropical genera within the Taphurina are monospecific. Selymbria Stål, 1861 was recently moved to its own tribe in the Tibicininae Distant, 1905d (Marshall et al. 2018).
