Strategies for Counselling Against Teenage Pregnancy Among Female Secondary School Students in Anambra

Description

The study examined the strategies for counselling against teenage pregnancy among female
secondary school students in Anambra State. The study adopted a survey research design and was
guided by one research question. A total of 119 guidance counsellors were used for the study. The
whole population served as the sample size. Data were collected using structured questionnaire
developed by the researchers; the data were analysed using arithmetic mean. The findings showed
that use of dialogue, encouraging abstinence; organizing seminars on the dangers of teenage
pregnancy, among others are among the strategies for counselling against teenage pregnancy.
Based on the findings, recommendations were made among which are; that sex education should
be incorporated into the curriculum of secondary schools and guidance counsellors should
initiate intensive campaign on sex education.
