Family EMBALLONURIDAE

(SHEATH-TAILED BATS)

• Small- to medium-sized insectivorous bats with tail protruding above uropatagium radio-metacarpal sacs and gular sac often prominent in males.

• 3-5-17 cm.

Afrotropical, Indo-Malayan, Australasian, Neotropical, and Holarctic (marginally) Regions.

• Closed and open forests to savannas and semi-deserts.

• 14 genera, 54 species, 94 taxa.

• 1 species Critically Endangered, 2 Endangered, 3 Vulnerable; none Extinct since 1600.
