Barynotus obscurus (Fabricius)

Curculio obscurus Fabricius, 1775

Distribution. Boreal and nemoral zones of Europe; introduced to Canada (Brown 1950)

Material examined. Kyiv Prov.: 1f (SIZK) Kyiv, under Aegopodium podagraria, Anemone sp. and Ranunculus repens, V.Yu. Nazarenko leg., 28.iv.2017; Volyn Prov.:1f (KUMN) Volyn, Besser leg., 1827; Zhytomyr Prov.: 2 spec. (SIZK) Zhytomyr, G. Proschiga leg., 14.v.1920

Biology. Grasslands in scattered mixed forests. The species is represented in Ukraine by parthenogenetic populations only; bisexual population is known from France (Hoffmann, 1954). Imago nocturnal, occur in VI–VII. Polyphagous on herbs (Rosaceae, Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Violaceae, Primulaceae), occasionally on various crops.
