Description
Mygnimia flava (Fabricius, 1775)
Distribution in the Arabian Peninsula: Bahrain, Qatar (Ghahari et al. 2014), Oman (Walker & Pittaway 1987 as Mygnimia dorsalis (Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau, 1845); Ghahari et al. 2014), Saudi Arabia (Walker & Pittaway 1987 as M. dorsalis), United Arab Emirates (Gillett & Howarth 2004 as M. dorsalis; Gillett & Gillett 2005 as M. dorsalis; Howarth & Gillett 2008 as M. dorsalis; Schmid-Egger 2017).
Extralimital distribution: Southeast Asia to Arabia (Ebrahimi 2006; Ebrahimi et al. 2008; Schmid-Egger 2017).
Remarks: The status and identity of Calicurgus dorsalis Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau, 1845 (described from Arabia and Java) was discussed by Shimizu & Wahis (2004), who concluded that it is probably a junior synonym of Sphex flava Fabricius, 1775, although this could not be conclusively established since the types of C. dorsalis have been lost or destroyed. Whether the formal synonymy is established or not, it seems most likely that the references to M. dorsalis from the Arabian Peninsula should refer to M. flava, which is the senior name.
