FIGURE 1. A. Animal in the resting position. Angles of the hind-limb elements are indicated. The rib cage is shown in this figure to indicate its disposition when the animal adopted the prone position. It is omitted from B-D. B. The head is raised and the fore-limbs are straightened. At this stage the hind-limbs are not yet fully extended. C. The head is thrown upwards and backwards, at the same time the tail is depressed. D. The hind-limbs are now fully extended and the head is elevated to the normal position; the tail is extended and the animal has now attained equilibrium.
