I owe my soul to the company store. The utilization of scrips in the wages payment in the coal mines of United States. He dejado mi alma en prenda en la tienda de la empresa. La utilización de fichas y vales en el pago de salarios en las minas de carbón de Estados Unidos.
Description
The coal companies in the United States used some 20,000 monetiform tokens to pay salaries, more than all the other mining companies in the world together. Paper vouchers were also issued, such as banknotes or forming small checkbooks. Together, these payment methods are known as "scrip", and represent a fundamental historical heritage in the study of the social aspects of coal mining in the United States in the first half of the twentieth century.
