Библиотеке српских далматинских манастира : сведоци очувања српског идентитета у Далмацији / Libraries of Serbian Monasteries in Dalmatia: Witnesses to the Preservation of Serbian Identity in Dalmatia

Тема овог рада јесте приказ кључних етапа у развоју библиотека три велика српска манастира у Далмацији од њиховог оснивања до данашњег тренутка у контексту друштвено-економских и културних прилика. При томе желимо да укажемо и на њихово актуелно стање (очуваност и бројност фондова, начин обраде и чувања, инвентарисање, постојање електронских каталога, вредне књиге и сл). Кроз основну тему скреће се пажња на делатност личности које су помогле формирање и очување ових библиотека.

Православно монаштво се у Далмацији формирало након оснивања првог манастира 1317. године и траје све до данас. Манастири Крупа (Обровац, 1317. године), Крка (Кистање, 1350. године) и Драговић (Книн, 1395. године) представљају камене међаше српске културне, друштвено-економске, духовне и националне баштине у Далмацији. Сви они су имали бурну историју, богату духовну делатност, вредне и драгоцене ризнице са црквеним реликвијама, рукописним и штампаним књигама на којима се налазе значајни записи. Били су преписивачки центри, поседовали своје библиотеке, библиотекаре, књиговезнице и књигољупце који су се старали о очувању књижних фондова. Такође су били и образовни центри за околно становништво. Народ је цркву помагао и штитио, а она се старала о његовом  духовном бољитку и о очувању духовног и националног идентитета. Након увида у историјат библиотека и деловање њихових библиотекара намера аутора јесте да укаже на то да су ове специјалне библиотеке, тј. књиге као њихови највреднији експонати, једни од кључних чинилаца који су допринели очувању вишевековног идентитета Срба на овим просторима.

The aim of this paper is to outline the key stages in the development of libraries belonging to the three large Serbian monasteries in Dalmatia in the context of socio-economic and cultural circumstances, from their foundation to the present. The paper also highlights the efforts of the most deserving individuals who contributed to collecting and preserving Serbian book treasures. Тhe author’s   intention is to indicate that these special libraries, i.e. books as their most valuable exhibits, are some of the key factors that have contributed to the preservation of the centuries-old identity of the Serbs in this region. Orthodox monasticism in Dalmatia began to develop after the foundation of the first monastery in 1317 and lasts to this day. The monasteries of Krupa (Obrovac, 1317) and Krka (Kistanje, 1350), and the Monastery Dragović (Knin, 1395) are the cornerstones of Serbian cultural, socio-economic, spiritual and national heritage in Dalmatia. All of them had a turbulent history, rich spiritual activity, valuable treasuries with church relics, manuscripts and printed books containing significant records. They were manuscript copying centers, owning their own libraries, librarians, bookbinders and book lovers who took care of the preservation of book funds. They were also educational centers for the surrounding population. The people helped and protected the church, and the church took care of the well-being and preservation of spiritual and national identity of its people. The research is supplemented by a presentation of the current state of affairs in the monastic libraries (funds, the methods of storing materials, inventories, electronic catalogues).

The most comprehensive, also the latest, expert inventory of the library funds with the description of the libraries themselves, dates back to the 1970s. It was composed by Milan Radeka, the field associate of the Serbian Academy of Sciences, in the form of a report and official note. It represents the basis for all subsequent researchers, a corpus of priceless importance on the basis of which one can conclude what has been preserved in Dalmatia over the last half-century, especially after the Serbian exodus in the 1990s. Only a few recent works deal indirectly with particular segments of these book funds (watermark research, the records of Gerasim Zelić, exploring the life of a deserving individual). The new facts presented in this paper are based on field research conducted in May and August 2019, as well as on the oral testimonies of the monks, professors and theologians “librarians” who reside in these monasteries.
