Spatially resolved excitation study in AGN

Description

We focus on AGN noted to harbour jets, which are known to produce outflows in all gas phases. We concentrate on their molecular gas, studying in 2-D how the ISM properties change in jet impacted regions. We fit ALMA, PdB and SMA data cubes with RADEX, a non-LTE radiative transfer code. We compare the jet impacted regions to the ambient ISM and find a difference in the kinetic temperature, which can vary as much as a whole order of magnitude. Additionally, we compare the kinetic temperature maps to those of the excitation temperature to establish if and in which regions an LTE is reached and in which regions the gas is optically thin. All the above are of interest for the derivation of wind masses.
