3D Animations of Sallenger's Storm Impact Regimes
Description
This resource contains four 3D rendered animations of the different regimes described by the Storm Impact Scale (Sallenger, 2000). The scale is a conceptual framework which originally described the impact of coastal storm to barrier island systems. The four regimes are described as follows:
- Swash regime: The case where the maximum total water level does not exceed the dune toe.
- Collision regime: The case where the maximum total water level exceeds the dune toe, eroding the front of the dune.
- Overwash regime: The case where the maximum total water level exceeds the dune crest, resulting in water overtopping the dune.
- Inundation regime: The case where the minimum total water level exceeds the dune crest, typically removing the dune system.
