COSMOS and GOODS-S fields spectro-photometric CIGALE study: Is [OIII]λ5007 a good tracer of SFR?

Description

The emission line is widely used in astronomy to derive SFRs. Both physical quantities are highly correlated and can be easily measured from spectra. Other emission lines as [OII], [OIII], among others have been proposed as tracers but the physics of these lines is more complicated. We count with photometric data covering from the UV to the IR wavelengths including and [OIII] emission for COSMOS and GOODS-S fields. We perform SED fitting using CIGALE to retrieve accurate SFRs and emission line attenuation to propose a calibration of SFR in terms of [OIII] luminosity. At high-redshift Hα emission is not available and most of the important spectral features are shifted to the IR. Proposing new calibrations in terms of other emission lines available in this range is crucial to target future observations.
