Description

On 25th May 2018, the Irish people voted to remove the controversial "8th Amendment" to the Irish Constitution, opening the way for the introduction of legislation governing the termination of pregnancy in the State. The Digital Repository of Ireland was asked to archive the materials from a grass-roots social-media-based group campaigning in the run-up to the referendum.. The poster will present some of the difficulties encountered when attempting to archive these social media posts and describe the approach taken by the DRI to overcome them. It will also show the open-source facebook-to-dc tool developed by DRI which may be used by others to generate Dublin Core metadata and textual asset files from a Facebook Group.
