Chancengleichheits-Monitoring 2019

Description
The DFG attaches great importance to equality of opportunity for male and female researchers. The DFG reports annually on the number and the proportion of women researchers submitting proposals to the DFG, on the success of these proposals and on women's representation on the statutory bodies at the DFG.
The report takes developments over several years into account. The DFG programmes and the subject areas are all analysed in detail. Additional data from DFG surveys and the Federal Statistical Office allows the distribution of women at different career levels to be considered and compared to the research system overall. In addition to the key report information, which is updated annually, different topics are explored in greater detail each year. A glossary in the appendix explains the most important terminology, programmes and statistical standards.
The latest report contains a special focus on the factors that influence the prospects of success for female and male researchers who apply for DFG individual grants. The period examined is 2009 to 2018. The results show that the success rates of men and women are very similar: in 2018 the figures were 34.8 percent for men and 34.0 percent for women. The analysis demonstrates that non-research-related factors such as gender, age, scientific discipline and year of decision do not play a role in a proposal’s prospects for success.
