Description

This is an analysis of Hotel Service in the United States. The data were scraped from TripAdvisor  https://www.tripadvisor.com/.

Top 100 locations ranked by TripAdvisor are selected for analysis. In each location, I retrieved the links of around 150 hotels (5 pages, 30 hotels per page) and scrape the following attributes from the hotel links: Hotel name, Location, State Code, Price, Score, Rating, Grade for Walking, Number of nearby restaurants and nearby attractions.

Overall, the majority of U.S hotels (84%) are rated as Excellent or Very good. I also see that when the price range increases, the ratings of hotels seem to be better. All the hotels with $1000+ per night are rated as Very good and Excellent.

The main focuses of my analysis are best value hotels. I observe that New York City and its state New York (NY) have a high number of best value hotels. Furthermore, the average number of nearby restaurants and nearby attractions in New York are at the top of all listed states and locations in my data. New York seems to be a good selection for tourists since the state has many sightseeing options around a hotel. The grade for walking there is also very high, which means that visitors do not have to worry about the traffic and they can enjoy wandering and exploring shopping malls and attractions near their stays.

Note: The analysis cannot reflect the whole hotel service in the United States because I only select 100 locations and each location has around 150 hotels. The results suggest that New York has many sightseeing options for a visitor to experience but do not confirm that New York is the best destination in the United States.
