Content analysis of Brazilian Afro-descendant women portrait on printed advertisements

  • 1. Universidade Nove de Julho

Description

This is a content analysis study on 660 ads out of 46 magazines of three categories (business, general interest and feminine) aimed at examining the frequency and portrayal of Brazilian Afro-descendant women. It has revealed a large underrepresentation of female Afro-descendant individuals, great asymmetry between ethnic groups in the country's inhabitants and their presence on advertisements and that ads fail to convey an inclusive view of Brazilian society.
