Description

This archive contains code for cleaning and organizing the Chilean Encuesta de Protección Social, a nationally representative longitudinal dataset of data on the social pension system and other socioeconomic characteristics of individuals living in households participating in the survey. Problems in data collection in the 2002, 2004, and 2006 waves of data make panel construction challenging due to inconsistencies in enumeration of the person order within households. This code uses family social science techniques to disentangle individuals within the household overtime, providing a consistent unique person-identifier link for waves 2002, 2004, and 2006. This file also includes source code for a paper forthcoming in the Journal of Development Economics titled "Improving Child Welfare in Middle Income Countries: The Unintended Consequences of a Pro-Homemaker Divorce Law and Wait Time to Divorce."
