Hydrodynamic simulations of recurring novae shells

Description

Recurrent novae provide a mechanism for growing a white dwarf (WD) to the Chandrasekhar mass, thus providing a single degenerate evolutionary pathway for a Type Ia supernova. The remarkable recurrent nova, M31N 2008-12a, is the prime candidate for exploding as a SN Ia. Further, the existence of a surrounding super-remnant, the result of ISM being swept up by millions of previous eruptions, indeed provides proof of the carbon oxygen white dwarf in this system growing in mass. I will present work on behalf of the 12a collaboration about M31N 2008-12a as well as my current work focusing on hydrodynamical simulations of nova shells produced by the nova eruptions of a white dwarf growing from one solar mass up to the Chandrasekhar mass. I will also present the effects of these outbursts on the surrounding environment as it is prepared for the interaction of the upcoming SN Ia explosion.
