One of the greatest issues and major health problems among the elderly population is falling. This has led to a debate among gerontologists and physical therapists. Losing lower limb muscle strength is a major factor leading to the loss of balance, falling and reduced functional mobility. Exergames have been suggested as new types of physical activity for the elderly where video games are combined with traditional physical activities. Exergame program, in comparison to traditional exercise interventions are found to be very effective creates fun and in the same time yields achievable and feasible results. There are some major deterrents to traditional balance exercise programs for elderly people living in the community, these include; lack of public availability of high-tech facilities, transportation barriers for elderly people, the problem of cost-benefit and cost effectiveness of any high-tech program.
