The Potentiality of the Arabic Language: A Study on the Ways of Derivation in the Arabic Language
This article deals with the potentiality of the Arabic Language and the ways of derivation of the Arabic words. At first, this study presents general information on the historical process of the efforts to make derivative words and the technical terms. This study attempts to investigate the derivation ways of words such as ishtikak "etymology"; al-saghir "the small", al-kebir "the large", al-akbar "the largest", naht, derivation with prefix and suffix, itba "reduplicative words", musellesat, abbreviation, symbol, metaphor, metonoym, allusion, synonym, polysemy, folk etymology etc. This article is also the first step of a book which has been planned about ishtikak.
