In Memoriam Alessandro Pizzorno (1924-2019): Some Recollection and Appreciation
Description
Alessandro Pizzorno, who passed away on 4 April, 2019, at the age of 95, was one of the most important sociologists of the past decades, but perhaps of all times. He was one of the last surviving members of the great World War Two generation – a generation which has undergone its maturation under conditions of a World War, and that included, among others, Michel Foucault (1926-1984), Reinhart Koselleck (1923-2006), Victor Turner (1920-1983), Mary Douglas (1921-2007), René Girard (1923-2015), Colin Turnbull (1924-1994), Erving Goffman (1922-1982), Shmuel Eisenstadt (1923-2010) and Zygmunt Bauman (1925-2017).
