Description

Gandhiji insisted on nurturing, conservation and enrichment of the Indian languages because he knew that our languages are not the mere collection of words, phrases, sentences and rules of grammar, they are also the carriers of knowledge, culture and values. Every word in the language has its own history and importance, and with each language, a culture and society are also connected. Therefore, the values of that society are manifested through that language. Any contamination in the language also results in adulteration in social values. Since there is an unprecedented relationship between the literature, values and journalism, there is a need to be extra careful about the language of the newspapers. Unnecessary contamination in the language creates many types of problems. The new vocabulary in the language must be built but that should not be influenced by any foreign language and must be within the scope of any Indian language. Journalism training institutions also need to be conscious about it so that the future generations of journalism get into the profession with the same values and mindset.
