Description

The RC Beam CO₂ & Efficiency Evaluator is a software application developed within the SITAR project to support the sustainability-oriented design and assessment of reinforced concrete beam sections. The program implements an innovative methodology based on a sustainability coefficient defined as the ratio between the environmental impact of the structural section, expressed through CO₂ emissions, and its structural efficiency under design loading conditions.

The software enables users to evaluate alternative reinforced concrete beam configurations by considering both material-related carbon emissions and the effective utilization of the structural section. By combining environmental and structural performance indicators, the tool assists engineers, researchers, and designers in identifying solutions that reduce material consumption and embodied carbon while maintaining the required structural capacity.

The software is distributed as a folder containing the executable application, a database directory, and several image files required for the correct operation and visualization of the user interface.

Important installation and usage note: The complete folder structure must be preserved after download. The executable file, the database folder ("db"), and all accompanying image files must remain in their original locations. Moving or deleting files may cause the software to malfunction or prevent the graphical interface from displaying correctly.

The database folder contains editable spreadsheets for concrete and steel material properties. Users may customize strength classes, design strengths, and environmental impact values to reflect project-specific requirements. By default, a limited number of material classes are provided, but additional classes may be added by extending the database spreadsheets.

Upon launching the application, users can enter geometric properties, material parameters, design actions, and safety factors through the graphical interface. The software then evaluates structural performance and sustainability indicators according to the implemented methodology and supporting standards.

The software is intended primarily for academic, educational, and preliminary design applications. It does not replace detailed structural design, professional engineering judgment, or formal verification procedures required by applicable design standards.

This software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. The authors and developers assume no responsibility for errors, omissions, inaccuracies, or any consequences arising from the use of the software or the interpretation of its results.

Support and Feedback

Users are encouraged to test the software and provide feedback regarding functionality, usability, and potential future improvements.
