Media Narratives of Russian–Egyptian Relations: A Comparative Framing Analysis of Egyptian Presidential Communication and RT Arabic News Coverage (2026)
Description
This study examines the representation of Russian–Egyptian diplomatic relations through a comparative framing analysis of official Egyptian presidential communications and RT Arabic news coverage during 2026.
The research focuses on three diplomatic events: the meeting between Presidents Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Vladimir Putin during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 11, 2026; President El-Sisi's meeting with Russian presidential representative Maxim Oreshkin in Cairo on October 19, 2026; and the Egyptian–Russian presidential meeting in Moscow during the Russia–Africa Summit on October 28, 2026.
Using qualitative content analysis, comparative documentary analysis, and established media-framing concepts, the paper explores how diplomatic communications and international news organizations select information, emphasize political actors, and construct narratives concerning bilateral cooperation, economic development, regional security, and international partnerships.
The analysis considers differences between official diplomatic statements and journalistic reporting, particularly in headline construction, source attribution, issue prominence, and the representation of political relationships.
The study identifies recurring themes of strategic partnership, economic cooperation, and presidential diplomacy, while examining variations in the presentation of these themes across institutional communication formats.
The paper also develops a methodological framework for future research, including a proposed coding scheme, source-verification procedures, and recommendations for comparative media analysis.
The research contributes to discussions of political communication, international relations, public diplomacy, and the relationship between state communication and Arabic-language international journalism.
As an exploratory qualitative study, it does not claim to establish causal effects on public opinion or to represent the entire Arabic-language media environment.
