Description

ORCHID-Bibliography: papers and typed citation relations, version 2026.10: papers known to the ORCHID CALPHAD data project, with Crossref bibliographic metadata, the role each paper plays in ORCHID, counts of the evidence ORCHID released from it, and typed relations. The bibliography combines works found through the documented corpus, citation, TDB and handbook sources; it is not an exhaustive bibliography of the field. Part of the ORCHID data release v2026.10. Short name in the paper: Bibliography.

Status. Version 1, machine-extracted: roles and evidence counts derive from machine-extracted literature values and link tables; bibliographic fields are Crossref metadata as deposited (DOIs matched from printed references checked against Crossref: doi_match; mismatches dropped).

What

  • 9,570 works (7,813 with DOI; 1,757 without, with stable ids from first author, year and title): 1,427 read by ORCHID, 3,578 cited as the original source of extracted values, 1,886 assessments behind TDB files, 2,283 original evaluations behind assessed (handbook) diagrams, 2,806 discovery leads (Crossref higher-order assessment discovery, not read); a paper can have several roles.
  • 60,235 typed edges with provenance: cites / used_in_assessment (3,793 each; from the citation printed for each extracted value), models_system_in_tdb (3,757), reassesses (1,536; citation + same exact system, never from dates), handbook_reproduces (2,466), cited_by_crossref (44,890; publisher-deposited reference lists, kept separate).
  • DOIs matched from printed references (handbook source lines, cited sources of values, TDB header citations) are checked against Crossref (first author, year, title, journal): 5,384 verified, 103 weak (kept, flagged), 24 without a Crossref record; 19 mismatched DOIs were dropped (works kept without DOI; listed in DOI_MISMATCHES.md). A verified citation link records the outcome of the stated bibliographic check and does not certify the measurements or claims of the linked work.
  • Files: papers.jsonl/.csv/.parquet, edges.jsonl/.csv/.parquet, papers/<key>.json (one record per paper), systems/<SYS>.json and systems_index.json, BibTeX and CSL-JSON (Crossref metadata), papers.jsonld (schema.org ScholarlyArticle), SCHEMA.md, DOI_MISMATCHES.md, CITATION.cff.

How

Deterministic builder (tools/build_bibliography.py) over the ORCHID release files (literature values, ESPEI bundle, phase registry, assessed phase assemblages), the SGTE-corpus link tables and handbook source lines, and a cache of Crossref REST API responses (retrieved 2026-10-23). No model calls; no abstracts, full text or PDFs.

Limitations

  • Crossref metadata as deposited; doi_match grades DOIs matched from printed references (weak matches are kept and flagged; mismatches were dropped).
  • Open-access status only from the Crossref license field.
  • Discovery leads were not read; their inferred candidate systems are hypotheses.
  • Version 1, machine-extracted: evidence counts derive from machine-extracted values.

Licence

ORCHID's data are released under CC BY 4.0, as are the SGTE (B. Hallstedt, Calphad 89 (2025) 102833), Materials Project and OQMD data from which they are derived; attributions and statements of changes are in NOTICE.md, the licence of each folder in LICENSES.md (both in the bundle). Crossref bibliographic metadata: CC0. ORCHID-derived fields (roles, evidence counts, relations, checks): CC BY 4.0.

The stated licence covers the ORCHID-produced content in this deposit; upstream data and software retain their documented terms and attribution requirements, and no publisher pages, handbook drawings or restricted TDB source files are included.

Files: one zip (orchid-bibliography-v2026.10.zip) holding the files at their repository paths, a MANIFEST.sha256, the README, CHANGELOG and licence files. Its file list with sizes and SHA-256 is zenodo/bibliography.files.json in the data repository.

Software and data citations

These credits describe the ORCHID project and its examples. Cite the papers and software used in your analysis, together with the ORCHID release and original source of each observation. The list does not imply that every dataset was generated with every package. Preserve the versions and commit hashes recorded by each example; a repository link is not a reproducibility pin. Materials Project and OQMD energies retain separate references.
