The Quantum Measurement Problem and the Decoherence Programme: The Physical Mechanisms of the First Two Layers and a "Gentle Collapse" Interpretation for the Third

Authors/Creators

Description

This book develops an operationalist reconstruction of fundamental physics from the record-keeping capacity of finite observers. The primitives are record chains — ordered sequences of irreversibly registered outcomes — and the central dynamical principle is gentle collapse: collapse as a continuous, resource-limited resolution of records rather than a discontinuous postulate. The observer is treated throughout as an invisible observer: a resource-bounded physical system whose finiteness has measurable consequences, not an external vantage point. A two-layer criterion separates what any consistent record-keeping world must contain from what our world contingently does.

From these primitives the program derives, as rigorous results, that energy is the rate of phase change along a record chain and that mass is a self-recording rate. The speed of light emerges as an exchange rate between rates of change, from which the Lorentz group follows. Quantum mechanics is reconstructed in full bookkeeping detail, including a derivation of the Born rule and a Schrödinger readout theorem. Gravitation is rebuilt along a second, independent path modeled on Jacobson’s thermodynamic derivation: a delta-field equation is obtained with no bare debt — zero unaccounted inputs — at the price of three outstanding assumptions, each stated explicitly. The three fermion generations emerge as Z₃ phase orbits (theorem-grade); the Koide relation is reconstructed as a candidate mechanism via a harmonic-kernel mass matrix, K_ij = 2 g_i g_j / (g_i + g_j), at derivation level. The inverse fine-structure constant is constrained to an integer family, α⁻¹(κ) = 4πN, conditionally yielding α⁻¹(κ) = 36π = 113.097, compatible with the measured 137.036 after standard running.

The program issues falsifiable predictions, each with a stated potential falsifier: a neutrino mass sum Σm_ν = 61.0 meV to be adjudicated by Euclid DR1; the integrality of α⁻¹(κ)/4π; a collapse window N* ≈ 190–3300; a neutron–antineutron oscillation window; dimensional-six proton-decay prohibition; and a forced nonzero 0νββ amplitude. Every claim carries one of five epistemic labels — Rigorous result, Proposition (conditional), Candidate mechanism, Registered assumption, or Conjecture — so that the reader always knows what is theorem, what is mechanism, and what is wager.
