FMY - Future Meteorological Year Files for Norway (2050, 2080)
Authors/Creators
Description
This dataset includes FMY files for all municipalities in Norway, based on TMY files produced with CERRA data from 1986-2005 using a TMY3 type methodology, where the FS weighing is skewed towards temperatures during the winter months (October to March). The TMY baseline files are then morphed into the future using the FutureWeatherGenerator (Rodrigues, E., Fernandes, M.S., Carvalho, D., 2023. Future weather generator for building performance research: An open-source morphing tool and an application. Building and Environment 233, 110104. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.buildenv.2023.110104)
The files represent a statistically typical year in the future meant for energy calculations of buildings, and are therefore not suited for evaluating extreme conditions.
Although the repository contains all combinations of time horizons (2050, 2080) and scenarios (RCP2.6, RCP4.5, RCP8.5), we recommend RCP4.5 in both 2050 and 2080 for ordinary energy calculations, and 2080 RCP2.6 and RCP8.5 as stress tests for heating and cooling demand in respectively, since no single scenario is conservative for all purposes.
The repository contains zipped files, that again contain:
- EPW-files - The most common file format for climate data for energy simulations applicable to most programs
- Stat-files - An accompanying format containing weather statistics, used in Energyplus
- Datasheets - a datasheet containing a comparison of FMYs with baseline TMY across scenarioes. [In Norwegian]
The methodology underlying these files is described in Thiis, T.K., Petersen, A.J., & Rodrigues, E. (2026), Evaluation and Selection of Future Meteorological Years for Building Performance Simulations in Europe, Journal of Building Performance Simulation. https://doi.org/10.1080/19401493.2026.2697216
