Authors/Creators
Description
This essay sets out the meaning of the Universal Gate Practice Hall: a practice hall is established by mind and conduct, not by a physical place; Guanyin's responsive manifestation is not bound to any location; in communal recitation one person leads the chant without taking the place of each participant's single-minded invocation; and any rite performed for an individual must begin with that person's own vow. On this basis four gates are established: individual invocation, communal recitation, entrusted recitation and scheduled practice. All scriptural quotations have been checked against CBETA.
