Vitamin B6 on United States Dietary Supplement Labels: NIH DSLD Snapshot of October 4, 2026 (16,951 Labels, 11,913 Products), Analysis Code and Outputs
Description
A complete, reproducible census of every label flagged "on market" in the National Institutes of Health Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD) that lists vitamin B6 under any spelling, as the database stood on October 4, 2026, plus eight labels found on October 13, 2026 by an additional search spelling (pyridoxine alpha-ketoglutarate, which DSLD files under its own ingredient group): 16,951 label records, merged into 11,913 products (11,367 adult products). For each product the maximum daily dose the label's own directions allow is computed from DSLD's serving record and compared with the US tolerable upper intake levels (100 mg/day for adults; 30, 40, 60 and 80 mg/day for children by age band) and, as context, with the European Food Safety Authority limit (12 mg/day), the Dutch legal maximum (21 mg/day), the Australian scheduling thresholds (50 and 200 mg/day) and the British advice ceiling (10 mg/day). Every product at or above a US limit was verified against its raw record; 12 internally inconsistent records were excluded and 21 mis-encoded serving records were corrected to the printed directions, each with its reason logged.
Headlines: 575 of 11,367 adult products (5.1%) direct 100 mg/day or more, 167 (1.5%) more than 100 mg/day, and 10 at least 500 mg/day; 323 of the 575 (56.2%) are not sold as vitamin B6 or B-complex products; 4,399 adult products (38.7%) exceed the European limit; and 22 products direct a stated child or teen age to a dose above the US limit for that age, up to 250 mg/day for children 4 years and older.
The record holds the raw snapshot exactly as retrieved (one label record per line, xz-compressed) with a SHA-256 manifest, the parsed label-level and product-level tables, the list of every product at or above a US limit with its DSLD link, the verified children's doses with the directions quoted, the review log, every number in the companion article, Figure 1, and the complete standard-library Python pipeline, which reproduces every output byte for byte offline.
Version 1.1.0 (October 13, 2026): adds the addendum records and the search-probe log, step 1b of the pipeline, two review-log corrections, the per-row vitamin B6 vocabulary, the rebuilt outputs and figure, and the point-by-point reply to peer review. Version 1.0.0 remains available under its own DOI.
DSLD content is US government public-domain data (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements); this analysis is independent and not endorsed by NIH. Consumer information about vitamin B6 and its interactions is published on HelloPharmacist.
