Description
K. M. Munshi, Glory That Was Gūrjaradeśa (A.D. 550–1300). Bombay: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, 1955.
Technical info (English)
-
Preface Date Misprint: Munshi’s preface is signed from “Raj Bhavan, Lucknow, December 19, 1944”. This is a printer’s erratum for December 19, 1954—Munshi served as Governor of Uttar Pradesh (residing at Raj Bhavan, Lucknow) from 1952 to 1957; he was not in Lucknow in 1944.
-
Revision History: In the preface, Munshi explicitly states that this work is effectively the second edition of his 1944 The Imperial Gurjaras (which originally appeared as Part III of the planned multi-volume project), now rewritten and expanded into an independent standalone monograph.
-
Contemporary Works in the Press: The preface references Dr. Asoke K. Majumdar’s Chaulukyas of Gujarat as being “now in the press” (Majumdar’s monograph was published in 1956 by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan).
-
Colophon & Foreword: The colophon names S. Ramakrishnan as Registrar of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and the volume retains the original July 1, 1944 foreword from Bombay alongside the new preface.
