Description
Part I, Part 2 10.5281/zenodo.23207046 The Triskele Biowire Ribbon is a circular, biomimetic alternative to traditional copper and galvanized steel electric fence wires. The architecture utilizes a high-tensile structural core synthesized from agricultural byproducts—specifically micro-fibrillated sugarcane bagasse cellulose and a hydrophobic, tannic-acid cross-linked milk-casein protein matrix. This organic backbone is structurally reinforced with amorphous nanosilica derived from sugarcane bagasse ash and rendered flame-retardant via integrated ammonium phosphate.
Electrically, the ribbon drops traditional low-frequency high-joule shock pulses in favor of high-frequency, capacitive microsecond high-voltage bursts that eliminate thermal dissipation and prevent internal matrix burnout (pyrolysis). An internal network of Carbon Nanofibers (CNFs) carries the charge along a triple-spiral triskele geometry, maximizing surface area to exploit the electrical skin effect while aerodynamically neutralizing wind stress.
The outermost upper and lower ridges are isolated tracks packed with micro-quartz dust particles suspended in a Z-axis Anisotropic Conductive Epoxy (ACE). When an animal impacts the ribbon, mechanical compression triggers a native piezoelectric voltage spike that acts as a low-power kinetic switch, instantly awakening a sleeping charge generator to deliver an on-demand deterrent shock. Wind-driven micro-oscillations are similarly harvested to partially recharge the system's batteries.
The entire assembly is wrapped in an outer weather-resistant polymer skin featuring a vivid dichromatic multicolored swirl of fluorescent lime-yellow, deep royal blue, and stark white bands—colors explicitly optimized for the red-green colorblind, rod-dense visual mechanics of livestock like cows and sheep.
To maximize durability, high-friction junctions are shielded with a glass-hard, non-conductive yttria-stabilized zirconia nano-ceramic UV coating at the fence posts. Minor field wear is mitigated using an aerosolized bio-polymer maintenance spray infused with CNFs that flash-cures under natural sunlight, extending the ribbon's operational field life to 10–15 years. Once spraying ceases, the ribbon undergoes systematic, zero-waste environmental biodegradation: the core and nerves break down into clean soil carbon and humus, while the quartz track weathers into monosilicic acid, acting as a high-grade silica fertilizer that fortifies pasture grass cellular walls, drives photosynthesis, and accelerates drought resilience.
