Description

Abstract
Soil is a complex and fragile ecosystem, essential for the functioning of agricultural systems and the provision of ecosystem services. However, the intensive use of pesticides profoundly disrupts this balance by affecting soil biodiversity, particularly microorganisms and macrofauna such as earthworms, leading to a progressive degradation of soil quality and long-term yields.

This article proposes a ten-year integrated strategy aimed at reconciling agricultural productivity with soil conservation in Algeria. This strategy is based on three complementary pillars: (i) rigorous ecotoxicological risk assessment prior to pesticide registration, (ii) rational use based on updated regulations and enhanced farmer training, and (iii) systematic monitoring of soil health incorporating biological indicators.
