SCIENTIFIC INTEGRITY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: A Study on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools by Journals Indexed in Latindex
Description
This study analyzes the guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence in 109 journals indexed in LATINDEX, distributed across seven areas of knowledge, through qualitative document analysis. The results indicate that all journals make some mention of the use of AI, with a consensus that AI tools cannot be listed as authors and that responsibility for the manuscript rests exclusively with human authors. Uses such as linguistic support and data analysis are permitted with explicit declaration, while autonomous content generation and image manipulation are prohibited. Approximately 85% of the journals align with international guidelines, with observed disciplinary variations. It is concluded that, although an initial normative framework centered on human authorship and transparency exists, gaps in standardization persist, making it urgent to establish uniform policies that guarantee scientific integrity in the face of technological advances.
