Description

This dataset provides georeferenced vegetation-index raster products derived from UAV multispectral and RGB imagery acquired in July 2020 over the archaeological area of the Villa of Domitian at Sabaudia (Lazio, Italy).
The survey was conducted using a SenseFly eBee fixed-wing UAV equipped with a Parrot Sequoia multispectral sensor and a SenseFly S.O.D.A. 3D RGB camera. The dataset forms part of an integrated remote-sensing investigation combining UAV LiDAR, multispectral and RGB imaging for the identification and interpretation of vegetation and topographic anomalies associated with the archaeological landscape of the Roman imperial villa.
The repository contains two types of vegetation-index products. GNDVI, LCI, NDRE and NDVI are preserved as quantitative single-band 32-bit floating-point GeoTIFF rasters containing continuous index values. EXG, GLI, RBGI, TGI and VARI are preserved as rendered RGB(A) GeoTIFF products. MCARI, although derived from the multispectral workflow, also survives as a rendered RGB(A) product. The rendered products are intended primarily for visualisation, spatial comparison and qualitative interpretation, and should not be used as substitutes for the unavailable continuous numerical index rasters.
All products are georeferenced in WGS 84 / UTM Zone 33N (EPSG:32633). The original processing projects and some intermediate products are no longer available; the repository therefore preserves the surviving processed raster products without attempting to reconstruct missing data.
The acquisition and processing methodology, and the archaeological application of these data, are described in:

This dataset complements the associated UAV LiDAR dataset:
