DMP for Animal Data – A Tailored Research Data Management Plan in RDMO
Authors/Creators
Description
A Data Management Plan (DMP) is essential for the effective planning of research projects, yet many of the DMP templates currently available are too general or too detailed to meet researchers’ needs of an precise but efficient documentation. Within the project KI‐TIERWOHL, we collaborated with the Rostock University Library to develop a tailored DMP that addresses the specific requirements of animal research. Our approach began with a needs assessment, conducting surveys among KI-TIERWOHL researchers to identify essential data elements and FAIR principles applicable to their workflows. Based on these insights, we designed a structured DMP template, specifying the information to be included and how to ensure FAIR compliance. The template was implemented as a custom catalog in the open source tool RDMO. We progressively evaluated and refined the catalog in multiple phases, ensuring its practicality and usability. The final catalog is publicly available on the RDMO GitHub repository. Currently, KI‐TIERWOHL researchers actively test the catalog, and we are developing a version 2.0 to incorporate further user feedback and enhance its functionality. This poster presents our methodology, the catalog’s features, and the lessons learned from its implementation.
