Community Heritage Grants funding data, National Library of Australia, 1994–2017

  • 1. Curtin University

Description

This dataset records grants awarded through the National Library of Australia’s Community Heritage Grants Program from 1994 to 2017. Each row represents a funded project and records the funding year, the Australian state or territory associated with the recipient, the name of the recipient organisation, a description of the funded project, and the amount awarded.

The data were compiled from publicly available Community Heritage Grants announcements and program documentation for research reported in Leisa Gibbons, “Memory-making: a review of the Community Heritage Grant Program 1994–2018”, published in Archives and Manuscripts in 2019. The research was also presented in the paper "Funding diverse community heritage and histories in Australia" at the Libraries and the Community Symposium: Representing and reflecting cultural diversity in library research, policy and practice, RMIT University, 27-28 February 2020.

The dataset may be used to examine patterns in grant recipients, funded activities, geographic distribution and funding amounts across the 1994–2017 period. Organisation names and project descriptions generally reflect the terminology used in the source documentation. Consequently, the same organisation may appear under different names in different years, and the level of detail provided for projects may vary.

A separate related record contains supporting research documentation collected during the project, including available program guidelines, assessment reports and other program material. Some supporting documents were retrieved from archived websites.
