Description
This presentation investigates the thermal response and cycling stability of Al and Al–Si casting alloys modified with 40 wt% Sn for use as composite phase change materials. Combining microstructural characterization, thermal measurements, and thermodynamic modelling, the study examines how alloy composition affects heat storage performance and stability. The results show that silicon improves tin confinement and limits porosity evolution during thermal cycling, while largely preserving the main melting temperature and latent heat. The use of readily available casting alloys also offers potential for industrial adoption and future use of recycled feedstocks.
