Description
In the past years, SolydEra has built a solid expertise in large SOFC stacks and reversible systems for industrial applications. Based on the G8 stack assembled today in the highly automated plant in Pergine (IT), the company has evolved and validated large stacks and systems for the industrial market of electrolysis and power generation. For the particular case of synthesis industries or e.g. biogas plants consuming green hydrogen, SolydEra has developed a multi-MW reversible concept offering multi-mode operation to best address the challenge of intermittent sources, grid services, and electrical storage.
The core of this solution is the rEMX-NG HotModule, which is built around five powerful G8X stacks specially packaged for multi-stack integration. Each stack can develop up to 10kW in fuel cell mode and 30kW in steam electrolysis mode.
The rEMX-NG HotModule further comprises a compact hot Balance-of-Plant (HotBoP) comprising heat exchangers, a steam reforming unit, electrical heaters and an afterburner.
This multi-mode unit enables high performance operation not only in steam electrolysis, but also in fuel cell mode, where both hydrogen, natural gas and other fuels can be converted efficiently.
Furthermore, the unit is planned to operate as well in co-electrolysis mode, to generate syngas for synthetic fuel applications. The rEMX-NG HotModule is currently being assembled in pre-series and deployed in customer systems.
In this paper, performances of this latest stack generation and of the module are presented together with the targeted customer applications.
