AI Viber Track: Course Materials for AI-Assisted Software Engineering (IEEE CS Region 8 AI Caravan 2026)

Complete, openly licensed course materials for the AI Viber track of the IEEE Computer Society Region 8 AI Caravan 2026: a 32-hour online course of 16 two-hour sessions for developers, taught on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6 October to 28 November 2026.

Overall goal: from knowledge to practical capability. Equip developers to use AI-assisted engineering methods to specify, build, test, secure and improve modern software products while retaining human engineering judgment. Participants carry one small software product through specification, working implementation, extension, documentation and handover, with strong emphasis on review and recovery from agent errors.

Learning outcomes. Participants will be able to: (1) use AI coding assistants with effective prompts and managed context; (2) turn acceptance criteria into a specification-driven development workflow; (3) review, debug, test and recover generated code safely; (4) integrate an AI-powered capability with guardrails and evaluation; (5) create a production-style quality gate for security and maintainability.

Instructor slide deck (93 slides with speaker notes, seven modules); training module guide with minute-by-minute run sheets for all 16 sessions; syllabus, outcome map and assessment rubrics (three milestones, demo day, timed repository exercise); the NetOps Triage reference product (12 acceptance criteria, 35 automated tests, a guarded AI triage feature with an offline evaluation gate, and a CI quality gate with linting, strict typing, coverage, SAST, dependency audit and a container smoke test); five agent-error drills with facilitator solutions; templates (context file, prompt patterns, specification, review checklist, pull request, ADR, handover, AI usage log); a documentation kit for recording delivery; and a program design report.
