DesignConcepts v1.0.0 — the design-concepts laboratory of the Historiotheque

Description

First release of the DesignConcepts repository — the design-concepts laboratory of the Historiotheque, where works are designed before they are made.

A design concept is the high-dimensional whole of a work held intact: the concept as a whole, its systems and simulations, its philosophical machinery, what's executed and what's stuck, and its open questions. One file per concept (DC-YYYY-NNN); revisions are new dated files, never edits — the audit trail holds for design work like everything else.

What's in this release

  • The repo scaffold: root README (what a design concept is), the master index grouped by domain, and the concepts/ folder.
  • The broadened scope: this repo began as novels-only and was widened, by decision, to ALL design concepts across the practice — novels, series, sound and albums, texts, the workspace itself, the Art Operation. The five-section format was never novel-specific; it fits any designed whole.
  • The design concept log spec (v1.0): DC-YYYY-NNN IDs, the five body sections, domain: frontmatter (novels | series | sound | texts | workspace | operation), revisions-as-new-files. Trigger phrase: "log a design concept."
  • DC-2026-001: the first design concept logged under the spec.
  • The rationale, stated plainly: the concept preserves the whole-work object intact against the 1D bottleneck — the flattening a work suffers when it's carried only in the operator's head or scattered across notes.
  • LICENSE.md, committed before this first release per procedure.

What's not done

DC-2026-002 and DC-2026-003 are drafted and awaiting my go-ahead, as are the refcard atoms. The self-reflexive layer — design concepts for the repositories, checklists, and procedures themselves, design science applied to the apparatus — is parked. The concepts folder will fill as works are designed. This release documents the laboratory as it stands — including what's unfinished. The record is not a brochure.
