Description

Wolowiec, T.; Pavlova, O.; Liashenko, O.; Bogacki, S.; Pavlov, K.; Skrzypek-Ahmed, S.; Nahirska, K.; Romaniuk, R.; Semenov, N. "Carbon Pricing and Coal Displacement in the European Union: Complementarity between Price Signals and Phase-Out Commitments, 2005–2024." Energies (manuscript energies-4544416, accepted after minor revision). Preprint: https://doi.org/10.20944/preprints202608.1791.v1 The package reproduces every table and figure in the paper. It contains a balanced panel of the 27 EU Member States for 2005–2024 (N = 540), the coded record of national coal phase-out commitments (Beyond Fossil Fuels tracker), the raw Our World in Data energy dataset, and Python estimation scripts. All estimates are deterministic. README.md maps each table and figure to the script that produces it. Note on GDP per capita: the series (Maddison Project Database 2023, international-$ at 2011 prices, via Our World in Data) ends in 2022; in the panel the 2022 value is carried forward to 2023 and 2024 (54 of 540 country-years). Script 06 shows that omitting the GDP control leaves the headline estimates unchanged. Changes in version 1.3.0 (relative to 1.2.0): - All scripts now read from data/ and write to output/; hard-coded absolute paths removed from scripts 01, 02 and 04. - New script 00_descriptive_statistics.py reproduces Table 1. - New script 06_gdp_carryforward_check.py documents the GDP carry-forward and its effect on the estimates. - Output labels and file names follow the manuscript numbering; Figures 1 and 2 renumbered in order of appearance. - The single results_log.txt is replaced by per-script logs in output/. The v1.2.0 log reported Table 5, rows 4–5, under an earlier definition of the commitment groups; the manuscript values are produced by 05_revision_analysis.py. - README.md added. Requirements: Python 3.10 or later, pandas, numpy, statsmodels, matplotlib.
