The United States of America — Insular Areas and States (Edition 1.0, 2026)

A two-sheet, 24 × 36 inch map of the United States centred on its territories, compiled in Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands. Sheet 1 gives the page to the five inhabited insular areas — Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa — each at its own scale with paired kilometre and statute-mile bars; the fifty states occupy three small inset boxes. Sheet 2 is an azimuthal equidistant globe centred on the geographic extent of the country: the smallest spherical cap enclosing every boundary vertex of the fifty states, the District of Columbia and the five inhabited territories (285,737 vertices of the Census Bureau's 2025 cartographic boundary file). That centre, 47.681°N 142.364°W in the North Pacific, is fixed by the two most distant points of U.S. territory, the south tip of Guam and the east end of St. Croix, 15,324 km apart (WGS 84 geodesic); the great circle between them is drawn through the centre. Beneath the globe, a table of the fourteen U.S. territories gives incorporation and organization status, 2020 population, citizenship at birth, voice in Congress, presidential electors, Supplemental Security Income eligibility and geodesic distance from the centre, each cell cited to statute or case law.
