HAUNTING THE BORDER: Passages, Horizons and Memories of Disappearance in Morocco
Description
This PhD thesis makes space for stories of disappearance and death at the border. It seeks to open onto the dynamics of absence and presence, of interruption and reconfiguration, of collectivisation and questioning that run through the experience of border violence, and ground for its contestation. It seeks to trace the threads traversing stories of violent absence, focusing on the absence itself and in what it builds, relating with the deep bond between the living who bear it and the disappeared who remain. The story of Yasser and his family is one of these, entangled with others – the people who, for decades, have continued to die and disappear at the borders of the world.
