"Please See the Whole Patient A Patient-Led Educational and Advocacy Framework for Neuro-EDS, Complex Craniospinal Conditions, ME/CFS, and Trauma-Informed Care"

Authors/Creators

Description

This patient-led educational and advocacy framework connects selected existing expert literature and resources with patient experience to encourage comprehensive, individualized evaluation in Neuro-EDS, complex craniospinal conditions, ME/CFS, and overlapping multisystem illness.

It emphasizes considering the whole clinical picture: patient history, injury mechanism, neurological symptoms, functional changes, examination findings, imaging capabilities and limitations, relevant co-occurring conditions, and appropriate specialist referral.

Topics include craniocervical and atlantoaxial instability, cervical instability, Chiari-spectrum disorders, tethered cord, CSF-pressure disorders, dysautonomia/POTS, mast-cell-related disorders, and ME/CFS. Discussion of these conditions does not imply that every patient has them or needs identical testing or treatment.

The framework also addresses diagnostic delay, medical trauma, disability-related access barriers, independent second opinions, and premature attribution of physical symptoms to psychosomatic causes before clinically appropriate evaluation. It recognizes that physical, psychological, and functional conditions can coexist and should be assessed on their own evidence.

The author writes as a patient advocate, not as a clinician or Neuro-EDS phenotype expert. Medical and scientific information is attributed to cited sources, with distinctions between peer-reviewed literature, preprints, educational resources, patient experience, and emerging hypotheses. This publication does not present original research and is not a systematic review or clinical practice guideline. Citation does not imply endorsement by the cited experts.
