Proceedings of BOBCATSSS 2025: Artificial Intelligence in Library and Information Science: Exploring the Intersection presents the peer-reviewed papers selected for publication from the 33rd BOBCATSSS International Conference, held in Istanbul, Türkiye, on 21–23 January 2025. The conference brought together 265 academics, researchers, information professionals, and students from 32 countries to examine the rapidly evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and library and information science.
Organized collaboratively by Ankara University Department of Information and Records Management, Istanbul University Department of Information and Document Management, and Université Gustave Eiffel – Institut Francilien d’Ingénierie des Services (IFIS), BOBCATSSS 2025 provided an international and interdisciplinary forum for discussing how artificial intelligence is reshaping information creation, organization, access, management, preservation, and use.
The volume covers a wide range of contemporary topics, including AI-supported information retrieval, data management, metadata and cataloging, linked data and knowledge graphs, generative AI and ChatGPT, AI applications in academic and public libraries, digital and AI literacy, professional competencies, digital libraries, smart information services, cybersecurity, and knowledge management. It also addresses the ethical, legal, and societal dimensions of artificial intelligence, with particular attention to privacy, biometric data, trustworthy AI, misinformation, hallucinations, information integrity, digital inclusion, and algorithmic accountability.
Bringing together contributions from researchers from different countries and disciplinary backgrounds, the proceedings document current debates, research approaches, practical applications, and emerging challenges at the intersection of artificial intelligence and library and information science. The volume is intended for researchers, educators, students, librarians, information and records managers, policymakers, and other information professionals interested in the future of the field.
