Sustitución Inferencial Encubierta en la Atribución de Estados Intencionales bajo Incertidumbre Social: Ambigüedad de la Señal Social y Cierre Inferencial

  • 1. Investigadora Independiente

Description

Abstract (English)

This document examines whether Covert Inferential Substitution (SIE; Youglar, 2026) —already
formulated as a general construct within the PRI–URI–CTI–RRI line— acquires specific properties
when the object of the consolidated inference is another person's intentional state and the available
evidence is an ambiguous social signal. The mechanism SIE describes —replacement of inferential
content with preservation of the degree of closure— and the auxiliary-hypothesis generation described
by Kim, Park, and Young (2020) within the impression-updating literature converge structurally at one
precise point, reached through independent conceptual paths. This convergence is documented; what SIE
contributes beyond that literature is identified —a diagnostic criterion based on four indicators already
published in URI, applied as a package, and its connection to escalation of behavioral commitment—;
and a falsifiable prediction is formulated that distinguishes, within the domain of ambiguous social
attribution, a genuine reopening from a covert substitution. Digital platforms are presented as a
particularly fertile context for observing the phenomenon, not as its exclusive object. This is a theoretical
development, not empirically validated.
